The first China International Conference in Economics- The China Job Market for Economists was held on 18th to 19th Dec, 2017 at Holiday Inn Hotel in Beijing, which was jointly sponsored by Guanghua School of Management of Peking University, School of Economics of Fudan University, Department of Economics of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University and School of Economics of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. The event invited nearly 30 colleges and universities and nearly 100 outstanding doctoral graduates from overseas to participate in the event. The atmosphere of the venue was very lively. This was not only a job fair, but also a feast for the mind and soul where sparks of new thoughts and vitality of dreams took place.

First of all, QIAN Yingyi, Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, delivered a speech and expressed warm welcome to the teachers of domestic institutions who came to participate in the event and the students from overseas institutions who came to apply for jobs in China.

In recent years, with the development of China's economy, the demand for teachers in the economic and financial fields in domestic universities has continued to grow, and more and more Chinese students want to return to China to serve as faculty members. This recruitment was born in the trend of adapting to the times and meeting the needs of the realities. It was also the first attempt to organize faculty recruitment activities in China by Tsinghua University. Dean QIAN Yingyi attached great importance to this recruitment event and expressed his best wishes. He said: "In the long run, we hope to build an annual recruitment project with extensive recognition and participation in the economic and financial fields, and eventually develop into the world's second largest faculty recruitment activity in the economic and financial sector after the United States."

Organizing Annual Economic and Financial Conference Attracting More Talents by Getting Over Difficulties


In previous years, domestic universities mainly recruited outstanding talents at home and abroad by attending the annual meeting of American AEA (American Economic Association). The recruitment time was close to the winter vacation of domestic universities and the economic cost was so high. The final confirmation of recruitment results and the offer giving time were later than that of colleges and universities in North America, which brought inconvenience to job seekers and universities. The "First China International Conference in Economics" led by Tsinghua University was scheduled in mid-December which was currently between the end of the North American University's fall semester and the American AEA Annual Meeting. The conference provided job seekers with the opportunities of interviews with Chinese universities and campus visits before the US job market interview. On the one hand, it helped to reduce the interviewer's intensity in the US market, and provided a job search opportunity before the US market, on the other hand, it solved the practical problem of recruiting overseas talents for Chinese universities, and reduced the cost of recruitment to the United States, effectively accelerated the recruitment process that has been delayed by the winter vacation and the Spring Festival, so as to enhance the competitiveness of the universities in China, and further promote exploration and innovation among the universities on topics such as faculty recruitment. .

In order to provide more exchange opportunities for the participants, this event was mainly divided into two parts: on-site exchange meeting and interview. The students took the initiative to seize the opportunity to talk with the teachers about the future ideals.
